Window into Poetry

I wrote a couple of poems earlier in life and liked doing it. Then I began writing poetry wholeheartedly in 2017, and never stopped. I love it because it helps me express myself in a way I can’t otherwise. I also love how it allows me to create snapshots of moments and thoughts and feelings that are important to me, like pictures in prose.

Poems are also easy to share. This is a new expansion for me that I’m excited about! I’m not a published poet, this is my first step in sharing my work.

I don’t have a steady writing practice and I like it this way. Instead I write in cycles. I have writing spurts where I’m very creative. Poetry ‘happens’ and asks to be born, and the more I write the more it flows. This is interspersed by periods where I write a poem here and there and otherwise leave it rest to focus on other things.

My poetry medley has grown over these nine years into 900+ poems. This year I’m committed to actually creating collections. It’s labor intensive. But as I gather poems, refine them, and give them a home it’s rewarding to see them come together and shape a bigger story that a single poem can’t do.

Soon I will share some of the influences, questions, and inner movements that help the poems take root. So check back once in a while for updates of this webpage.
